1 Person Arrested in Ongoing Military Recruitment at El-Wak

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of an individual for forging documents during the ongoing military recruitment exercise at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra. The exercise resumed on Thursday, November 20, 2025, after being suspended on November 12 following a tragic stampede that claimed the lives of six potential recruits.
Close to a thousand candidates have gone through the recruitment process so far. The Director of Protocol for the Ghana Armed Forces, Colonel Evelyn Asamoah, stated that the suspect has been apprehended by security authorities and will face the consequences in accordance with established procedures.
James Agalga, Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee of Parliament, who led a monitoring visit to the recruitment centre, expressed satisfaction with the improvements implemented. He noted that these measures have made the exercise safer and more efficient for prospective recruits.
“They have now formed multiple centres and teams to simultaneously assess the eligibility of applicants interested in joining the armed forces. We’ve seen for ourselves that doctors are at work, and the teams responsible for documentation are functioning efficiently,” Mr. Agalga explained.
Military personnel were seen directing movements carefully to prevent overcrowding, ensuring a calm and highly controlled environment at the stadium. Approximately 1,600 shortlisted applicants are being processed under close supervision.
