2 friends get 20 years over illegal possession of guns, theft

 The Circuit Court at Asante Akro­pong in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region has sentenced two friends to 10 years imprisonment each, for conspiracy, and illegal possession of guns.

Charles Antwi, alias Kojo Fosu, 49, a carpenter, and Francis Abobi, alias Seaman, 41, a farmer, who were also accused of damaging property and stealing at Sokoban, a suburb of Kumasi, pleaded guilty, and were convicted on their own plea.

Police detective Inspector Kwame Boakye Agyemang, pros­ecuting, said that the complainant, Ama Boakyewaa Asomani, a teacher at Kumasi Suame-Ano­mangye, reported to the police that unknown persons stole items from her residence at Sokoban Ampa­bame.

The court heard that the complainant returned home and detected that the door was damaged and at television set valued at GH¢7,800, a Samsung ‘A’ 52 series valued at GH¢3,500 and a CCTV

 hard drive were stolen.

Insp Agyemang told the court presided by Mrs Gloria Mensah Bonsu that the suspects were arrested at their hideout at Effid­uase-Asamang in the Sekyere East District.

The prosecution said after a search on the suspects, a cutlass, a pinch bar, a glass cutter, two pliers, two pistol guns, a cartridge and three smart phones were retrieved from them. Insp Agyemang also revealed that the suspects in their caution statement admitted the offence. —GNA
