4 die in road accident at Essamang Kakraba
Four persons, including a driver and his mate died on Monday afternoon in a fatal lorry accident at Essamang Kakraba, on the Tarkwa-Bogoso highway in the Western Region.
The driver, Samuel Nkansah, 38, and Wisdom Dzinado, 18, were trapped to death on the spot, while Akosua Affumwaah , 65, and Lawrencia Baidoo, 18, a student at Fiaseman Senior High School, were reported dead on arrival at the Apinto Government Hospital at Tarkwa.
Five others, including a 60-year-old woman, sustained injuries in the crash, and the deceased have been taken to the hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile, a driver, Raphael K.A. Prempeh, 37, and Peter Ekow Barnes, 35 , Edward Ackon, 60, and Eric Agyei Mensah, 38, and a six-year old girl, named Yaa, also sustained injuries and were admitted at the Tarkwa Government Hospital. However, Yaa has been discharged.
The Tarkwa Police Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Chief Superintendent Victoria Yamoah, confirmed the accident to the Ghanaian Times.
He said that at 1:30pm on Monday, the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser, Raphael K.A. Prempeh, after buying fuel, emerged from the Shell fuel filling station along Tarkwa-Bogoso motor road, heading towards Tarkwa, and crashed into an Opel Zafira, being driven by Samuel Nkansah, with eight passengers on board, including Yaa.
Chief Supt Yamoah said both vehicles were damaged and were cleared from the road pending investigation.
