Five people died on the spot and 53 injured when a Mini Benz Bus and a Yutong Bus collided around the Dodi-Pepesu Bridge near Kadjebi in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region last Wednesday.

The Mini Benz with the registration number GT 6151-U carrying 11 passengers was travelling from Dodo-Amafrom, while the Yotong Bus with the registration number GT 6598-10 also carried 47 passengers, was heading from Bimbila to Accra when the accident occured.

The Acting Public Affairs Officer (PAO) of the Oti Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr John Nchur, who briefed the media at Dambai, said all the 53 injured persons were receiving treatment at the Saint Mary Theresa’s Hospital at Dodi-Papase, while the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue in the same facility awaiting identification and autopsy.

He appealed to the public to help in identifying the families of three of the deceased persons while investigation into the accident continued.

Mr Nchur cautioned road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations and prioritised safety on the road to prevent accidents, especially as the country approaches the Easter festivities and wished the injured speedy recovery.
