5 die after vehicle plunged into River Owabi
Five people died when the vehicle they were travelling on plunged into River Owabi, between Akropong and Dabaa, in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred early Tuesday on the Akropong-Dabaa road, where the driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle and plunged into the river.
The deceased have been identified as a 41-year-old teacher, Rita Agyare, Helena, 40-year-old seamstress, Boamah Gyasi Eric, 20, plumber, 10-year-old student, Lordina Yasan, and her sister, Doreen Yasan, 5.
A police source confirmed the incident, saying the bodies have been conveyed to the Mount Sinai morgue for preservation. According to the source, investigation into the accident has started.
An eyewitness account indicates that the teacher was taking her children to school when the accident occurred.
The eyewitness said the vehicle that was travelling from Dabaa to Akropong veered off the main road, overturned and crashed into the river.
