Aburi Girls SHS’ annual inter-house b’ball tomorrow

Aburi Girls’ Senior High School (SHS) will climax their annual inter-house sports week celebrations with a basketball championship on Friday at the Lower Court of the school.
The four-day competition, under the auspices of the headmistress, Madam Wilhelmina Obuobisa-Atakora, will have all eight houses battle against each other for honours in track and field events, handball, volleyball, netball, and basketball.
The championship is expected to help select a standing team for the school ahead of upcoming second-cycle institution competitions this year.
According to the organisers, the championship will be supported by the treasurer of the Ghana Basketball Association (GBA), Madam Aurora Commodore-Toppar, and will be played under the FIBA rules.
On the fixtures, defending champions, Aberdeen House, will take on Irene Anderson, Edinburgh House to face Sylvia Asempa House, Kilsyth against Barradale, while Royal Park and Chapel House sort things out in the final game of the preliminary stage.
Madam Commodore-Toppar, a former basketball player for the school, noted that she plans to bring together her former colleagues to collaborate with the school authority in order to help revamp the game.
According to her, in the last decade the standards have fallen, and she believes the old students need to come together to support the school with infrastructure to entice more students to play basketball.
