Accra Lions secure comeback victory over Basake Holy Stars

Accra Lions delivered a much-needed lifeline in their relegation fight with a spirited 2-1 comeback win over Basake Holy Stars on Match day 27 of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

The match got off to a lively start as Prince Tweneboah fired the visitors ahead in the fifth minute, silencing the home team with an early blow. Lions, however, refused to back down and showed resilience throughout the game.

Their efforts paid off in the second half when Hamzata Musah leveled the score in the 71st minute. Just five minutes later, Lucky Nwafor struck what proved to be the match-winner, completing a dramatic turnaround for the home side.

The victory is a crucial morale-booster for Accra Lions, who are locked in a fierce battle to avoid relegation.

The win lifts them to 16th place on the table with 26 points. Basake Holy Stars, meanwhile, remain in 12th position with 30 points, as the bottom half of the table remains tightly contested.

On Friday, Kingsley Braye scored a magnificent hat-trick as Medeama hammered Dreams FC 4-0 to end their five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium.

The youngster scored two great headers and a penalty as part of an all-round dominant display where he ran Dreams in tatters.

The result means Medeama keep the pace with league leaders, Asante Kotoko, as they jump to fifth on the table with 41 points – just five points behind the Porcupine Warriors with eight matches

 to end the season.

Braye scored his first Premier League hat-trick as he notched home with two headers in the 38th and 42 minutes to put the home side in front to end the first half.

He put the result beyond doubt with his third goal in the 74th minute courtesy a penalty before Mubarik Yussif completed the rout with the fourth goal through the spot kick in the 88th minute.

The talented striker becomes the first player to score a hat-trick since the reconstruction of the new Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium.
