ACI Shadrach Azangweo Honoured for Transformative Work in Youth Development, Agriculture

Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Shadrach Azangweo has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to youth development, sustainable agriculture, and national growth.

He received the Community Impact Award of the Year at the third edition of the AFLAG Philanthropic Awards and Charity Night on Sunday in Accra, in recognition of his leadership in community initiatives and agricultural innovation.

A press release shared with The Ghanaian Times highlighted ACI Azangweo’s dedication to public service, mentorship of students, and promotion of food security nationwide.

His achievements include winning the 2014 Best Meat Processor and the 2023 Overall Best Farmer in the Ga Central Municipality. He has also pioneered agricultural clubs in second-cycle schools such as Methodist Girls’ SHS, Okuapeman SHS, and Mount Sinai SHS, nurturing the next generation of agripreneurs.

Under his leadership, AppleJack Farms has bolstered local food production, enhanced environmental conservation, and strengthened agribusiness initiatives across Ghana. Contributions from the farm helped Methodist Girls’ SHS win the Best School Award at the 40th National Farmers’ Day, reflecting ACI Azangweo’s impact in agricultural advocacy.

Beyond farming, he serves retirees, religious groups, and community platforms, demonstrating humility, discipline, and dedication to public service. Aligning with government efforts to boost agriculture, the Ghana Immigration Service has deployed selected officers to support the Feed Ghana Project, reinforcing its commitment to national development.

At the awards event, ACI Azangweo expressed gratitude to AFLAG and credited his success to a personal mission to inspire youth and instil an agricultural mindset. Quoting Indian agricultural icon M.S. Swaminathan, he said, “If agriculture goes wrong, nothing else has a chance of going right.” He encouraged Ghanaians to cultivate backyard gardens, adding, “If all of us do this, in the next five years Ghana will move beyond discussing food security to discussing food sovereignty.”
