The son of the former late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has picked nomination forms to contest the primaries in Yendi.
Alhaji Umar Farouk Aliu Mahama is the third person to have publicly declared his intention to contest the seat.
Speaking to the media after picking his forms, he expressed confidence in coming out victorious, stating that his good works in the community, in the areas of health, agriculture, women empowerment, employment among others, would speak for him.
Elaborating on the projects he has undertaken to support his community, Farouk Mahama said his non-governmental organisation (NGO) has helped in the sensitisation of the youth on HIV and AIDS and Hepatitis B.
The Yendi Government Hospital mortuary which for over 30 years had not seen any renovation has now received a facelift and was done by him.
He has also helped over 1,000 youth to gain employment in various sectors.
Many brilliant but needy students who could not pay their fees and so had to stay at home, are now in school due to his Foundation’s intervention.
Mr Mahama said he is keen on continuing his father’s legacy in order to make Yendi the most developed city in the Northern Region.
He said he wants the world to know there are people who are ready to change Yendi politics for good, adding that his aim would be to win the Yendi primary and go ahead to win the 2020 elections with a margin of 10,000 votes.
Farouk Mahama is a certified International Supply Chain Professional and has risen through the ranks at the Ghana Cocoa Board to become the Deputy Procurement Manager.
Born to the former late Vice President and his mother, Hajia Ramatu Mahama in 1981, he had his elementary education at the Presby Experimental School in Tamale and Achimota School in Accra.
He then proceeded to Prempeh College in Kumasi for his secondary education and later the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration where he acquired his Bachelor’s degree and later Master’s degree from Coventry University in England.
