At 2025 Sankofa National Prestige Honours  …Ken Agyapong advocates return to virtues

A flagbearer hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Ken Ohene Agyapong, has urged Ghanaians to embrace patriotism, honesty, discipline, and love for country as key virtues to restore trust and drive national development.

Speaking at the 2025 Sankofa National Prestige Honours in Accra, where he was the special guest of honour, Mr Agyapong, said corruption had eroded trust, deepened division, and crippled long-term vision.

“Corruption has weakened trust, division has stolen unity, and short-term thinking has crippled long-term vision. Sankofa calls us now to return not to nostalgia, but to wisdom,” he stressed.

He explained that the Sankofa bird, which looks back while moving forward, symbolised the need for Ghana to draw wisdom from the past while building the future.

“If we are bold enough to acknowledge our challenges, then we are strong enough to overcome them,” he added.

The immediate past Member of Parliament for Assin Central described Ghana as being at a crossroads, with an economy under strain, youth seeking opportunities abroad, and politics focused more on power than progress.

He identified corruption as the nation’s greatest enemy, noting it was “not merely the theft of money, but the theft of hope.”

Mr Agyapong urged leaders and citizens alike to confront corruption without fear or favour, particularly calling on the youth to resist shortcuts to success and uphold accountability.

“The egg of Sankofa is in your hands; the future of Ghana depends on your innovation, courage and sense of responsibility,” he said.

At the ceremony, he was honoured with the Sankofa Best Statesman Award for his contribution to national development, job creation, philanthropy, and advocacy for innovation and creativity.

Mr Agyapong was also honoured with the prestigious Sakofo Best Statesman Award in recognition of his exceptional contribution to national development.

The award highlights his role as a builder-in-chief, whose vision of trade and enterprise has created jobs, expanded opportunities for the youth, and strengthened Ghana’s economic foundation.

Beyond his business achievements, Mr Agyapong’s philanthropy has made a lasting impact in communities across the country, reflecting his conviction that true development must uplift people at every level.

Known for his forward-looking approach, he continues to champion innovation and creativity as the drivers of a modern and competitive Ghana.
