Auto-mechanic jailed 25 years for robbery
The Ashaiman Circuit Court presided over by Judge Gabriel Mate-Teye, jailed a 22-year-old auto-mechanic, Denis Boakye Yiadom, also known as Asu, for robbery.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Nunoo-Mensah, told the court that, the accused was part of a robbery gang that attacked residents of Zenu in the Kpone-Katamanso municipality on November 6, last year.
The prosecutor told the court that accused together with other four accomplices attacked Mr Victor Akoto, a retired military officer, Ms Jenefer Honore, a nurse, and Master Israel Boakye, a student, and robbed them of their properties, which included, Samsung Galaxy S6, and an IPhone, valued at GH¢1,347.
Insp Mensah revealed that the accused was arrested during another robbery, after the victims reported at the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command.
He told the court that the accused managed to escape from lawful custody to Ejisu in the Asante Region, where he was rearrested.
The accused, however, pleaded guilty to the charges leveled against him, and prayed the court to tamper justice with mercy, but the court sentenced him to 25 years’ imprisonment, citing section 149 of the Criminal Offences Act.
Judge Mate-Teye cautioned that “it will serve as a deterrent to others, who engage in such unlawful acts”. –GNA
