B/Ahafo Police hunt armed robbers
The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has intensified operations to apprehend a gang of armed robbers, who have been terrorising road users and passengers on roads connecting Nkoranza and other parts the country.
Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani that the police received distressed calls from passengers of attacks on roads connecting Nkoranza.
He said the robbers during one of their operations, attacked and robbed a farmer, who was on his way to the farm, of his single-barreled gun at Kontonso on the Nkoranza-Ejura road.
On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the police had a call from an unknown caller informing them of a robbery attack on the Nkoranza-Nyinase road, and the Nkoranza Divisional Police Patrol Team, and they moved to the scene, but the robbers had fled, he added.
Chief Insp Oppong explained that the police patrol team came across one of the victims, a tractor operator, on the road, and he disclosed that he was robbed of GHȻ65.00 at gunpoint by a gang of six armed robbers.
He said the Assembly Member of Suoso electoral area in the Nkoranza municipality, was attacked by the robbers, who ordered him to alight from his motorcycle and they collected an unspecified amount of money and Techno mobile phone from him.
Chief Insp Oppong said Mr Kofi Tua, another farmer, also reported to the Nkoranza Police that he was robbed of his gun while going to farm.
Mr Tua said that he saw a parked vehicle ahead on the road leading to his farm, but thought it had a fault. When he reached that point some armed men emerged from the vehicle, beat him and bolted with his gun.
