Beaufort Properties wins 2nd Beach Rugby League tournament

Team Beaufort Properties were crowned champions of the second edition of the Beach Rugby League organised by the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) in partnership with Let’s Do It Ghana and Regardless Mode at the Laboma Beach Resort.

They defeated Team Wildlife Ghana Society 4-3 to lift the trophy at stake.

The one-day tournament held as part of activities to mark World Cleanup Day brought together players from the various rugby league teams to play under the names of their sponsors and partners.

Despite losing their opening game 5-3 to Sahara Solace, Team Beaufort Properties defeated Hapag Lloyd 7-3 and accounted for Rotaract Club 4-0 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they defeated Street Sense Organisation 5-4 before beating Sahara Solace 3-1 in the semis.

Before the games started, players, officials, volunteers, sponsors, and partners engaged in a communal beach cleanup exercise in line with the Seventh World Beach Cleanup Day.

The General Manager of RLFG, Jafaru Awudu Mustapha, congratulated Team Beaufort Properties for the victory, adding that this year’s tournament was a testament to the growing popularity of rugby league in Ghana.

“The addition of the beach cleanup makes this event even more special, showing how sport can have a positive impact beyond the field.”

The CEO of Regardless Mode, one of the event’s key partners, Mr Michael Agyei-Budu, hailed the success of the tournament and pledged his outfit’s continuous support to help grow and make the sport very popular in Ghana.

On her part, Madam Kate Opoku, Country Leader for Let’s Do It Ghana, applauded the Rugby League Federation heads for combining the sport with the cleanup efforts, which she described as incredible, showing that the environment can be taken care of while enjoying activities like rugby.

“This initiative goes beyond just sports; it’s about creating lasting impact, combining the spirit of rugby with environmental consciousness, highlighted the commitment of the Federation to not only promote sports but also environmental sustainability,” she stated.
