BECE school placement opens July 20

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school placements will open from Monday, July 20 to Friday, August 7, 2026, for the 619,985 candidates who sat for the examination.

The selection marks the first step towards the 2026 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). Under CSSPS, qualified BECE candidates will be placed in Senior High Schools and Technical institutions nationwide.

To prepare, GES would commence a nationwide training and sensitisation workshop for all Regional and Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education.

The training would run from Wednesday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 28, 2026. It aims to give directors a clear understanding of this year’s selection guidelines and placement process, enabling them to guide schools, candidates, and parents effectively.

GES stated it is committed to ensuring education authorities are prepared to provide accurate information and effective oversight during the selection period.

As part of the plan, all directors have been directed to participate in the training and share the key details with schools and stakeholders in their areas.

According to GES, these preparations are intended to make the 2026 school selection and placement process transparent, efficient, and orderly ahead of the new academic year.

Out of the total number of candidates across the country registered for the examination, 304,273 are males and 315,712 females.
