Bernard Mornah launches campaign to lead PNC
A Former Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has launched his campaign to lead the party in the December 2024 election.
On the theme “a new leader, a new direction, a new Ghana,” Mr Mornah is hoping to end the political duopoly of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress since the country returned to democratic order in 1993.
He said as Ghana looked towards the African Union Agenda 2063, the country needed a new direction, an honest, incorruptible and committed leader, to professionally manage a new Ghana of an all-inclusive and law-abiding citizenry.
“Many first-time voters are disillusioned with the current leadership which has failed to meet their expectations. The Bernard Mornah leadership offers a new, necessary direction for our country,” he said at the launch of his campaign in Accra on Wednesday.
Mr Mornah said his experience in various leadership roles had prepared him to lead Ghana effectively with his commitment to honesty, discipline and excellence.
If given the nod by his party and subsequently by the country, Mr Mornah said his vision would be anchored on a nine-point agenda to turn the economic fortunes of the country around.
These are food security and agro-processing, a well skilled values driven professional manpower, a gold economy, a safe secure and a well governed country based on the rule of law, a responsible, respected friendly nation, a healthy society, a prudently managed economy, a well-connected and industrialised country.
Details of his nine-point agenda, guided by the vision of Ghana at 100, he said would be announced in the coming days to give the delegates of the PNC a reason to be elected as the party’s flagbearer.
According to him, “Ghana is not poor but poorly led. It is poor leadership that has underutilised the skills, valour, and purposefulness of its people and which has left us where we are.”
The pending elections, he said “offers a providential opportunity to revolutionarily transform this country on its desired and expected direction. It offers a generational and golden opportunity to change and elect a new leader with an understanding of the problems we have been confronted with and overcome as a nation.”
Ghana, he said was currently suffocating under an incompetent administration which has worsened the microeconomic indicators and in the process worsening their living conditions.
According to the PNC flagbearer hopeful, the NPP and the NDC have done little to change the narrative of the country and should be shown the exit at the polls.
“I am humbled and prepared to take up this arduous task, hopeful of my party’s support as its flagbearer and the people of Ghana as its President. I pledge to serve with honour, respect, integrity, and excellence anchored in discipline and truthfulness. I ask and appeal to you to give me the vehicle of Ghana to drive,” he implored the delegates.
