Black Starlets to begin January camp ahead of 2026 U17 AFCON

Ghana’s U17 national team, the Black Starlets, will resume full residential training in the first week of January as they ramp up preparations for the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The upcoming camp will mark the final phase of preparations, with Head Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and his technical team working closely with an expanded squad before selecting the final 23 players for the tournament.

Once the squad is finalized, the remaining players will remain in the Black Starlets database as part of a long-term strategy ahead of the 2026 WAFU B U17 Championship, scheduled shortly after AFCON.

Dr. Narteh Ogum explained that retaining a wider pool ensures continuity and squad depth, particularly as some AFCON-qualified players may become ineligible for WAFU due to age restrictions. He added that this approach would ease the pressure on the coaching staff when assembling the WAFU team later in 2026. –Ghanafa.org
