A 36-year-old businessman, Kofi Asare, on Thursday broke down in tears when an Accra circuit court remanded him into police custody for allegedly having sex with his 12-year-old daughter, at Nungua, Accra.
He is alleged to have continuously abused his daughter sexually, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was when he took advantage of the absence of the victim’s step mother, who had gone to an all-night church service, and once again had sex with the girl.
Asare, who was charged with incest, pleaded not guilty, but was remanded to reappear on March 21 before the court to be presided by Mrs Rita Abrokwah-Doko.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire, who held brief for Chief Insp Judith B. Asante, told the court that the complainants were two people residing in Nungua.
The court heard that Asare resides in the same area with the victim and her step mother.
Chief Insp Atimbire said Asare has been having sex with the victim on the blind side of his wife, and that anytime accused committed the offence, he warned the victim not to disclose it to anyone.
Prosecution said on February 28, this year, when the victim’s step mother left the house for an all-night church service, accused had sex with the daughter.
Chief Insp Atimbire said the victim took to loitering and sobbing because of the father’s action.
He said some Good Samaritans saw the girl weeping, and when they quizzed her, she told them about her father’s sexual assault at her.
Chief Insp Atimbire said a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit at Nungua and a medical report form was issued to the victim.
Prosecution said Asare was arrested by the Police.- GNA
