Cameroon Starlet Christian Kofane to Stay at Bayer Leverkusen Until Next Week

Cameroon are allowing teenage prodigy Christian Kofane to remain at Bayer Leverkusen until after the weekend, enabling him to feature in the key Bundesliga clash against RB Leipzig on Saturday.

Kofane has been a regular for Leverkusen this season, missing only one league game since signing a four-year deal from Spanish second division side Albacete at the start of the campaign.

While European clubs are typically required to release their players ahead of international tournaments, Leverkusen reached an agreement with both Burkina Faso and Cameroon to retain Kofane for this crucial match.

German media reported that Kofane’s agent, Eric Depolo, and Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o maintain a strong relationship. The two were seen together in the VIP section during Leverkusen’s Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain in October, which Leverkusen’s management leveraged to strengthen ties with Eto’o—an advantage now benefiting the club.
