Chorkor, Nima-Mamobi advance in McDan Peace tourney

The 2024 edition of the McDan Peace and Unity Tournament kicked off over the weakened with Chorkor thrashing 10-man Dome-Kwaben­ya 4-0 in the opening game at McDan La Town Park.

Striker Enoch Aryeetey grabbed a brace, with Man-of-the-Match, Ishmael Nortey, and substitute Shadrach Neequaye registering their names on the score sheet.

Chorkor came into the game with a host of stars, including Great Olympic’s Christopher Nettey, former Black Starlets, Isaac Antah, Albania-based Jo­seph Ansah, and Abdullai Nortey, a member of the current Black Starlets, and they quickly took the lead in three minutes when Antah crossed for Aryeetey to head home for the opener.

Antah, who was a torn in the flesh of his opponents, came close to increasing the tally on the 20th and 27th minutes, but his effort missed the target.

Three minutes after the break, Aryeetey increased the tally, slip­ping past the back-line to connect home.

The Dome-Kwabenya side was reduced to 10 men after midfield­er Abdul Adams was red-carded for an off-the-ball incident. Chor­kor capitalised on that to grab two quick goals in the 78th and 82nd minutes of the game through Nortey and Neequaye to effec­tively dump out Dome-Kwabenya from the tournament.

On Sunday, Nima-Mamobi defeated Weija Gbawe XI 1-0 courtesy a 36th-minute own goal by Desmond Opare.

Special guest of honour, Mrs Abigail McKorley, wife of Dr Daniel McKorley, Group Chair­man of the McDan Group of Companies, urged the various communities and their supporters to keep preaching the message of peace and unity before, during and after the general election, and further congratulated the winners for advancing to the next round.

Chorkor would face Osu, while Nima-Mamobi take on Tema in the next round of the tourna­ment.
