Cricket: Ghana ready to host 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier

GHANA is set to host the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub-regional Qualifier B tournament from March 24-29 at the Achimota Cricket Oval.

The six-nation round-robin tournament forms part of the qualification process for the 11th edition of the Men’s T20 World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand from October 21 to November 19, 2028.

Ahead of the tournament, a delegation from the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), led by its president, Mr Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare, and the Head of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the tournament, Nii Okai Evans-Anfom, visited team Ghana’s camp at the Achimota Cricket Oval.

The team has been in non-residential camping since early February, sharpening the technical, physical, and mental areas of their play to ensure maximum readiness with a key focus on refining specialised skills for batting, bowling, and fielding.

The delegation was met on arrival by the Head Coach, Rajinder Parsad, who indicated the team’s preparedness to do Ghana proud.

Mr Asare thanked the coach and his players for their dedication to the sport and urged them to do their best to secure qualification.

In a chat with the media after the meeting, Mr Asare noted that Ghana was poised to stage a successful event in Ghana.

Mr Asare indicated that the players were self-motivated for the task ahead of them and hoped that government and corporate sector come to their aid.

The Chairman of the LOC, Mr Evans-Anfom, revealed Ghana’s readiness for the tournament, noting that the field of play, which is currently receiving final touch-ups, will be ready ahead of the start of the tournament.

Participating teams will start arriving on March 22 to begin practice the next day ahead of the start of the tournament.
