Diamonds Int’l School pupils visit New Times Corporation

The Diamonds International School pupils from Nigeria paid a visit to the New Times Corporation (NTC) in Accra for an educational trip to learn about newspaper production.

Mrs Bisi Akin-Arogunmah, the Governess and Administrator of the school, accompanied the pupils and their teachers.

They were given a tour of the Ghanaian Times and Spectator newsrooms, as well as other departments of the Corporation.

Mr Norman Cooper, the Acting News Editor of the Ghanaian Times, provided the pupils with insights into the process of gathering and processing news stories before publication and distribution.

He also explained the criteria for selecting stories for publication, emphasising that news is sourced from various sectors such as the presidency, courts, Parliament, police, and regional correspondents.

In response to questions from the students about pursuing a career in journalism and working with a newspaper, the Acting News Editor highlighted the importance of attending accredited journalism training institutions, particularly the Ghana Institute of Journalism (now University of Media Art and Communication – UniMAC-IJ) and the School of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon.

He urged the students to take their studies seriously and strive to become good citizens in the future and contribute their quota to the development of their home country Nigeria and also the African continent.

On her part, the Governess/ Administrator of Diamonds International School, Bisi Akin- Arogunmamati, expressed gratitude to the New Times Corporation for the warm reception always accorded them on their annual educational excursion to Ghana to expose their students to knowledge outside the classroom.
