Dorgu out for 10 weeks with hamstring injury

Patrick Dorgu is set to spend up to 10 weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring injury after Manchester United were dealt the worst-case scenario following further assessment of the player’s condition.
The Dane went down with a thigh problem late in Sunday’s win over Premier League leaders Arsenal, a match in which he starred and scored a spectacular half-volley to give United the lead after the restart.
Dorgu was replaced by Benjamin Sesko in the 81st minute, but interim manager Michael Carrick initially played down the severity of the injury, expressing hope that it was only cramp.
“He ended up coming off with a little bit of cramp, hopefully it’s nothing worse. At this stage it’s hard to tell so we’ll just have to wait and see, but we’re hoping it’s not too bad,” Carrick said after the game.
However, further examinations have revealed the injury to be more serious than first thought, with The Athletic reporting that Dorgu could be ruled out until mid-April, beyond the March international break.
Although no definitive return date has been confirmed, it is speculated that the 21-year-old will miss around 10 weeks of action, ruling him out of United’s next eight matches.
The setback comes at an unfortunate time for Dorgu, who has flourished since being deployed as a left winger by Carrick after previously featuring mainly as a wing-back under former manager Ruben Amorim.
His outstanding performance against Arsenal followed a goal in the Manchester derby the previous week, taking his Premier League tally this season to three goals and three assists from 22 appearances. —The Independent
