Driver’s mate jailed 4 years for theft
A driver’s mate, who broke into the storeroom of a school and stole various items, has been sentenced to four years imprisonment by the Abuakwa Circuit Court.
Emmanuel Oteng, 22, alias “Sika Gari,” was said to have scaled into the storeroom of the Bantama M/A Junior High School (JHS) and made away table-top fridge, plastic barrel and two metal buckets, belonging to the school.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was convicted on his own plea.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Jonas Newlove Agyei, said the complainant was the Headmaster of Bantama M/A JHS, while Oteng was also a resident of the community.
The prosecution told the court, presided by Mrs Philomina Ansaah Asiedu, that Oteng broke into the store room of the school through the window and stole some items.
The court heard that the items were table-top fridge valued at GH¢3,000.00, one barrel valued at GH¢600.00 and two metal bucket stands, valued at GH¢1,200.00, all totalling GH¢4,800.00.
ASP Agyei said the headmaster reported the theft to Assembly Member of the Area, and Oteng was arrested and handed over to the Suntreso Police.
The prosecution further stated that Oteng admitted in his caution statement that he sold the stolen items to one Kofi Kombate, at Suntreso, but convict failed to locate the alleged buyer. —GNA
