DWM marks International Women’s Day, honours legacy of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

The organisation, Developing Women for Mobilisation (DWM), has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with a renewed call for stronger commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality.
In a message issued to commemorate the global celebration, the group also paid tribute to its late President, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a passionate advocate whose dedication to women’s rights transformed many lives and strengthened the fight for gender equality.
This year’s celebration is being observed globally under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.”
According to the Director of DWM, Mrs. Peace Aryee, the occasion provides an opportunity not only to celebrate the achievements of women but also to reflect on the enduring legacy of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, whose leadership and commitment to women’s empowerment continue to inspire the organisation’s work.
She noted that the late former First Lady devoted her life to championing the rights and welfare of women and girls, particularly in areas such as access to education, economic empowerment, leadership opportunities and protection from gender-based violence.
Mrs. Aryee explained that through her vision and tireless advocacy, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings helped amplify the voices of women in communities across the country and inspired a generation of women to pursue leadership and social change.
“Today, as we celebrate the strength and resilience of women everywhere, we also reflect on the powerful legacy she left behind. Her passion and commitment continue to guide our mission,” she said.
The organisation reaffirmed its determination to advance women’s rights in honour of the late leader, stressing the need to create a future where every woman and girl can thrive without discrimination.
DWM also called on government, civil society organisations, development partners and communities to work together to accelerate progress toward gender equality by ensuring that women and girls have equal opportunities, protection and representation in all sectors of society.
While acknowledging progress made over the years, Mrs. Aryee indicated that significant challenges still remain and urged stakeholders to intensify efforts toward building an inclusive and equitable society.
She emphasised that the organisation would continue to advocate policies, programmes and partnerships that empower women and girls and safeguard their rights.
According to her, the best way to honour the legacy of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is to continue the work she believed in deeply, promoting justice, inclusion and opportunity for women across the country.
Mrs. Aryee extended warm wishes to women across Ghana and beyond, commending their strength, resilience and contribution to national development.
“Happy International Women’s Day. Ayekoo to all women. God bless you all,” she added.
