ECG Power Queens Club supports Akosombo Dam spillage victims

The Power Queens Club of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has donated assorted items worth GH¢65,000 to victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage.

The items include 2,100 bags of sachet water, baby diapers, sanitary pads, four bags of gari, three bags of corn dough, five bags of beans, Kivo pepper, eight bags of akple powder, two bags of salt, two bags of cassava dough, yam, three boxes of tin tomatoes, three bags of kokonte, fish, 50 mattresses, toiletries, mosquito nets and two bags of Tom Brown.

Mrs Doreen Gyabi, president of the club, presenting the items to the victims yesterday, said that the gesture was to help alleviate the plight of the victims as they were going through psychological trauma, following the spillage of the dam.

“When we heard and even saw the ravaging effects of the Akosombo Dam spillage on livelihoods and properties, we were very sad, and today we are here to empathise with all of you and assure you that we stand by you,” she said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the affected victims, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the North Tongu District Assembly, Mr Osborne Fenu, thanked the ECG Power Queens for showing love to the victims in trying times.

He commended the company for swiftly restoring power supply to affected areas after the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point was shut down due to the Akosombo Dam spillage, and called on other companies to emulate the kind gesture.

“I would like to use this opportunity to call on other organisations to emulate this humanitarian act by the ECG Power Queens Club, to ensure all affected communities receive help and not only Mepe since there are 15 safe havens and 69 affected communities within the North Tongu District,” Mr Fenu said.
