Fatau, Ashie Quaye join Black Stars in camp for qualifiers
Ghana Premier League (GPL) duo of Fatau Mohammed of Hearts of Oak and Samuel Ashie Quaye of Accra Great Olympics have been handed late call-ups to the Black Stars for the Friday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
Head Coach Charles Akonnor chose Hearts skipper Mohammed to replace Slovakia based Benson Annan who is unavailable due to an injury he sustained at the weekend while featuring for his MSK Zilina side.
Ashie Quaye replaces Brentford City winger Tarique Fosu who has been excused from the upcoming assignments to sort out his future with the club.
The duo arrived in Cape Coast yesterday together with 29 other players to begin the final leg of preparations for the game against the Walias of Ethiopia on Friday before enplaning to Johannesburg face the Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Monday.
