Fire has destroyed the Paga Senior High School (SHS) girls’ dormitory at in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.
The blaze completely destroyed the roof of the storey building, electrical components, books and personal belongings of students.
The cause of the fire was yet to be established, but the school authorities said it started around 7 am when the students were in class.
Vitus Angkyier, Headmaster of Paga SHS, told Ghana News Agency that some students, who were still in the dormitory, spotted smoke and later flames emanating from the block.
He said the school authorities called personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service, who responded swiftly and quenched the fire.
Mr Angkyier said no student was hurt but at least 100 female students have been displaced by the fire.
The District Chief Executive, Gerard Ataogye, who visited the school to have first hand information of the incident, urged calm as efforts were being made to find immediate solutions to the problems created by the fire.
He said the school authorities will work with district and regional directorate of the Ghana Education Service to solve the problem. – ghanweb.com
