First Lady prays for Children at UNGA 2025

The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has made a passionate appeal for collaborative efforts to create a peaceful world with opportunities for growth and the well-being of future leaders.
Mrs Mahama, who was speaking during a special Annual Prayer Session at the Tillman Chapel Church Centre in New York on Monday, said the challenges facing children today, especially the vulnerable, were immense.
She, however, expressed optimism that these can be addressed through prayer and commitment to confront the rapid changing global order.
The event, which was held as world leaders gathered in New York for the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings, comes in a period where children of today face uncertainty amidst scaled back funding, and mistrust in institutions, eroding hope.
“We gather here from different nations and cultures, but we are united by our shared faith. Through prayer and decisive leadership, we can create a world where every child is protected and empowered to achieve their full potential,” she noted.
Mrs Mahama further indicated that a greater percentage of thousands of children caught up in armed conflict and humanitarian crisis were in Africa, where they are robbed of their childhood, forced to fight and endure terrible experiences.
“These are precious lives destroyed by circumstances beyond their control. When nations fail to focus on policies that safeguard the home, strengthen communities, and nurture the youth, it is our children that will suffer the most. They are the ones who lose parents, siblings, homes, dreams and carry emotional scars that can last forever,” she emphasised.
She stated that through her Lordina Foundation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the welfare of the underprivileged in Ghana, particularly orphans and vulnerable, she had been able to change lives with the hope that with support, many of such philanthropic work across the globe would impact the world
The Annual Prayer Service for children is facilitated by the World Vision International in partnership with the World Council of Churches, Caritas Internationals, the Episcopal Church and other faith-based organisations.
In attendance was the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo and officials of the Lordina Foundation.
