Former Tano North MP calls for support for Black Queens

Dr Freda Prempeh, a former Member of Parliament and Founder of the Ultimate Women Foundation (UWF), has commended the Black Queens for advancing in the group stages of the CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) 2024.

Dr Prempeh rallied a strong national support base for the Queens, saying “the Black Queens has now proven skeptics wrong, as the journey has been challenging for the team since 2016 when they qualified to the quarter finals of the WAFCON.”

The Swedish Coach, Kim Lars Bjorkegen, led Ghana’s senior women’s team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the WAFCON after securing 4-1victory against Tanzania.

Following an intense and gripping group stage, the Queens joined Morocco, Zambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria, South Africa, and Mali in the knockout phase of the tournament starting tomorrow with a coveted place in the semi-finals at stake.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Duayaw-Nkwanta, Dr Prempeh said she was highly optimistic that “with the team’s current momentum, the Queens will outshine their Algerian counterpart in their quarter final encounter on Saturday.”

The former outspoken legislator for the Tano North constituency in the Ahafo Region said: “what the Queens need now is a strong support base and our motivation”, saying “their qualification is an important milestone for the team.”

Dr Prempeh also stated that: “from their commitment on the field of play, the Queens aim to build on their successes and thereby win the WAFCON title for the nation accordingly.” –GNA
