Future Legacy Foundation registers children for after-school activities
OVER 100 school children aged 11-17 from the St. Mary’s Girl’s R/C Basic School and the Roman Catholic Boys Basic School in Korle-Gonno in the Greater Accra Region over the weekend registered to take part in a series of sports and educational activities to mark the launch of Future Legacy Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.
The activities to be held from January to December, 2025 were crocheting, Ga language studies, football, acrobatics, karate, good sanitation practices, dance and drama, and a game of chess at the St. Mary’s Girl’s R/C Basic School at Korle-Gono.
Under the guidance of their coaches, they would be engaged for a period of two hours (3pm- 5pm) each day after school for a year.
Speaking at the launch, the Founder of Future Legacy Foundation, Rosina Naa Ayele Osabu, said the initiative was to inspire the children, create opportunities that would give them the experience to influence their perspective in life, equip them with skills, spark their creativity, and shape their talents while discovering new ones.
Naa Ayele Osabu also indicated that the initiative, a pilot project, would be assessed every three months to ascertain its progress, and extended to all the other regions of the country, Africa, and the world at large.
During the launch, Charles Longdon-Hughes, a world karate champion, shared an inspiring story about his journey to becoming a world champion and also displayed some kara-T-Robics with a few of the children.
Also, Joseph Nii Armah Tagoe, also known as ‘Bobby Short’, a former football player of Accra Hearts of Oak, advised the school children not to take their education for granted as they aim to develop their God-given talents and creative skills.
He advised them to remain disciplined and listen to their coaches and be confident, and believe in themselves.
The Headmistress of St. Mary’s Girl’s R/C Basic School, Mrs Patience Addy, praised the Future Legacy Foundation for the initiative.
“This programme is going to go a long way to develop the creativity of these children. Education is not only about the classroom. There are so many aspects to it. So, if we want to build the child holistically, I believe that this is the way to go”, Mrs Addy said.
The Co-Founders, team members and coaches of the foundation are Charles Longdon-Hughes, James Tetteh Mensah, Elizabeth Naa Okai Koi Amarh, Joseph Nii Armah Tagoe, Priscilla Naa Sika Pappoe, Veronica Naa Odey Tetteh, Isaac Ofori Adjetey, Sharon Naa Odoley Odoi, Benjamin Hammond, Nana Kraba, and Edmund Kotey.
