Future Stars crowned champions of special netball competition

LA based Future Stars Netball Club (NC) last Saturday changed the narrative of netball in Ghana, putting up a spirited display to end the dominance of Blazing Fingers, the junior team of Blazing Hands of Legon.
They have for long operated under the shadows of the Legon team in both senior and junior division but on Saturday, they broke those shackles.
At a special netball championship played at the Madina No.1 Park, Future Stars went unbeaten in a four-club championship that included Blazing Fingers to run out as winners.
Other teams involved in the championship were the Spice Girls NC and Newbies NC.
Guided by Coach Palmer Jordan, the La team showed class in their games as they dealt with every opposition, including their biggest threat, Blazing Fingers, to annex all nine points.
Missing some key players, Blazing Fingers were poor in their first match of the competition, losing 2-11 to Spice Girls.
For the Future Stars, they made their intentions clear from the onset, registering a 12-2 humiliation of Newbies NC.
Spice Girls recorded their second win of the day with a 13-3 victory over Newbies NC while Future Stars maintained the standard, thrashing Blazing Fingers 11-5 to set a final showdown with the Spice Girls.
Before that, Blazing Fingers bounced back with an improved performance to record their first win, an 8-0 defeat of Newbies.
The grand finale was full of fireworks as the Spice Girls attempted to lay hands on a trophy but were repelled by a determined Future Stars side who outmuscled their opponent to win 7-4 to emerge the winners.
For Coach Palmer Jordan, Saturday’s feat was a huge rewards for the long period of hard work and the team continues to put in to become one of the best sides of netball and also create a competitive image for netball in Ghana.
“Congratulations to the young girls. They fought hard and their efforts have been rewarded. We knew we’ll do well but didn’t anticipate we could upset the apple-cart. We hope to keep this standard because expectations in subsequent championships would be high.”
Head Coach of Blazing Fingers also congratulated the winners but vowed to return strongly
