German legend Bruno Labbadia named new Nigeria coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has ap­pointed former Germany international, Bruno Labbadia, as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

The 57-year-old takes charge of the finalists of the recent TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Na­tions in Cote d’Ivoire, following the departure of previous coach, Finidi George.

The announcement, made via the NFF’s social media channels on Tuesday morning, comes just days before the Super Eagles start their 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

Dr Mohammed Sanusi, General Sec­retary of the NFF, con­firmed the decision, stating that, “The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Develop­ment sub-committee to appoint Mr Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles.”

His UEFA Pro License and ex­perience in one of Europe’s top leagues suggest a tactical acumen that the NFF hopes will translate to success on the African stage.

Labbadia’s immediate chal­lenges will likely include navigat­ing the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and building a team capable of competing at the highest level of international football.
