GES secures funding to clear arrears of newly recruited teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it secured money for the payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to newly recruited teachers across the country.

The approval, granted by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, covers teachers whose salary arrears accrued between August 1, 2024, and November 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Public Relations of GES, Daniel Fenyi, the arrears would be paid in four instalments beginning May this year.

The statement outlined that four months’ arrears would be paid in May 2026, followed by another four months in June, July, and August 2026, respectively.

It explained that the phased payment arrangement was intended to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in the disbursement process.

GES Management has, therefore, directed Regional Directors to communicate the development to Heads of Schools to ensure that all eligible teachers are duly informed.

The Service further assured staff of its continued commitment to their welfare and expressed appreciation for their patience and cooperation during the period.

The payment of salary arrears to newly recruited teachers has been a matter of concern in recent months, with many affected staff calling for expedited action to address the delay
