GFA, MTN Ghana unveil Elite U-19 Championship

THE Ghana Football Association (GFA) and MTN Ghana have launched the maiden edition of the Elite U-19 Championship.

The championship aims to showcase Ghana’s brightest young talents, providing them with a platform to compete and attract attention from national youth coaches and professional clubs.

Dubbed the ‘MTN Elite U-19 Championship,’ the 11-day tournament is scheduled to run from October 23 to November 2, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram and would have all 10 RFA U-19 teams participating.

At the launch, Mr Kurt Okraku, the GFA President, expressed delight at the introduction of the championship, describing it as a timely and transformative initiative for talent identification.

“This championship marks a major milestone in Ghana’s football development agenda and underscores the Football Association’s commitment to youth empowerment through its flagship initiative, ‘Power to the Youth’.”

According to him, the championship represents another decisive step in the FA’s long-term vision of developing a sustainable talent pipeline for national teams and clubs, ensuring that Ghana’s proud football legacy continues to shine brightly on both continental and global stages.

Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the championship, commended the leadership of the GFA for prioritising youth development, noting that the MTN Elite U-19 Championship represents a renewed focus on building structured pathways for young players to transition into professional football.

“This initiative is not just about football; it is about discipline, teamwork, and the future of Ghanaian youth and football as a whole,” he said.

To the young players, Mr Agbana indicated that “this is your stage, train hard, stay humble, and remember that talent opens the door, but character keeps it open.”

He also commended MTN Ghana for its unwavering commitment to sports development, noting that their continued partnership demonstrates a corporate vision that goes beyond profit to purpose and national impact.
