GFA presents vehicles to 8 RFAs

THE Ghana Football Association (GFA) has presented eight brand new Nissan Navarra pick-up vehicles to the Regional Football Associations (RFAs) at a cost over $262,000.

The beneficiary RFAs were the Brong Ahafo, Upper West, Central, Western, Eastern, Upper East, Volta and Ashanti regions.

They were procured through the FIFA Forward Grant.

Making the presentation at the GFA Secretariat yesterday, the FA president, President Kurt Okraku, said the presentation shows the outfit’s commitment to fixing the fundamentals of the sport.

He stated that it will also create an enabling environment for Division Two, Three, Colts, Women’s Division One and Girls’ Juvenile teams, as well as the Regional and District Football Associations to thrive.

Mr Okraku noted that the FIFA Forward Grant has also enabled the FA to take a significant step forward in their development agenda.

Mr Okraku further revealed that the FIFA Forward Grant could only cater for eight vehicles at the moment, adding that an additional two would be secured soon and handed over to the Greater Accra and Northern RFAs.

Contributing, the Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Mr Abraham Amaliba, who was the special guest of honour, applauded the GFA for what he calls evidence based accountability in showing what the FIFA funds have been used for.

According to him, Ghanaians, including himself at a point bashed the GFA for doing little for football in the country with the funds from FIFA, however Mr Okraku has proven that indeed the monies were being utilised for the good of the game.

He was of the view that the vehicles would go a long way to ensure that the dreams that the FA would come to fruition.

The Chairman of the Northern Region FA, Alhaji Abu – Hassan Rhyzo, thanked the FA on behalf of the beneficiaries and pledged to put them to good use.
