Former President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has described Ghana’s elections as one which is transparent, free, fair, and decisive.
Dr Masasi, who also doubles as the chair of the Commonwealth Observer Group, said “Ghana was indeed a shining star, hence a need for other commonwealth countries to learn from her.”
He was speaking at a press conference organised by National Elections Security Task Force (NESTF) in Accra yesterday to discuss security arrangements of post -elections violence.
“We went through the motions of what we came to do and what we observed, but particularly significant was to acknowledge and applaud the conduct of the elections in Ghana, “he said.
He stated that he arrived with his team in Ghana on November 29 for the elections and their mission would end on the December 13.
Dr Masisi praised the police for their professionalism and commitment to maintaining peace during the polls.
He noted that despite the intensity of the contest, the police remained calm, friendly, and firm, ensuring that the elections were free, fair, transparent, and decisive.
He noted that Ghana’s peaceful and transparent elections was a model that other countries could follow.
“The country’s commitment to peace, transparency, and accountability is worthy of emulation, and its development is a collective responsibility that requires the collaboration of all stakeholders, “he said.
Dr Masisi called on all stakeholders to work together to build on Ghana’s successes, adding that the country’s development was a collective responsibility, and that everyone had a role to play.
For her part, the Director of Public Affairs of the Police Service Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Grace Ansah –Akrofi, expressed her gratitude to the Commonwealth Observer Group for their collaboration in the elections,
citing that, the service remained committed in safeguarding peace and security in the country.
She assured the public that the police were adequately trained and prepared to ensure the safety of all citizens.
“The Ghana Police Service, working together with the other security agencies, will continue to maintain law and order in the country during this post-election phase,” she said.
