GJA to seek justice for Ahmed Suale at ECOWAS Court
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has stated that it would pursue justice for slain investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein Suale, at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice.
The GJA revealed that international partners, including the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), were prepared to assist in securing justice for Ahmed Suale through other international avenues.
Addressing a news conference at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, GJA President, expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the case in Ghana, despite the arrest and trial of one suspect.
“Although one suspect has been arrested and is currently facing trial, many issues surrounding the case are still not clear to us. “So far, our efforts to get clarity on those issues from the Police have not been successful,” he said.
Mr Dwumfour also stated that “we wish to emphasise that our position to seek external intervention in this case has not changed. We will only shift from our position when we are totally convinced that justice is at hand.”
He noted that similar measures were being contemplated for Latif Iddrisu, a journalist, who endured assaults by the police.
Mr Dwumfour highlighted significant national and international public interest in the case, and urged the Ghana Police Service to provide periodic updates in order to keep the public informed.
Ahmed Suale, a member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI investigative team, was shot and killed in January 2019. —GNA
