GOC supports 4×100 relay team, calls on corporate Ghana to invest in World Championship campaign

Ghana’s 4×100m relay team has stepped up preparations ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, from September 13 to 21.

The training camp, organised by Ghana Athletics in close coordination with and financial support from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), opened over the weekend at Texas A&M University–Commerce under experienced track and field coach, George Pincock.

The team is made up of the top 7 men’s 100m sprinters, namely Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, Barnabas Aggerh, Mustapha Bokpin, Isaac Botsio, and Captain Joe Paul Amoah.

The move, according to the GOC President, Mr Richard Akpokavie, is to enhance the performance of Team Ghana at the World Championship by helping them stay focused on fine-tuning their skills and perfecting their baton exchange techniques, which have been their bane in past championships.

“With this training camp, they have an ideal environment to prepare for the championships. They will train tirelessly to work on their technique, speed, and endurance to ensure they are in top form for the World Championships.”

According to him, his outfit is excited to support the relay team and sprinters as they prepare for the Championships because they believe in their potential and are confident that with the right support, they can make a strong impression on the world stage.

He, however, noted that the team will need further support to get over the line and called on corporate and state institutions to invest in the team as they prepare to take on the world to determine global champions.

“These athletes have been very consistent with their performances. I watch them bring joy to Ghanaians any time they get to the track. The GOC’s support is not enough, hence my call on Ghana to support the team to deliver, for their success will bring joy to Ghana,” he added.

This support is part of the GOC’s ongoing efforts to boost the performance of Ghanaian athletes on the international stage.
