Gong Gong Festival gets board

AN 11-member Board has been inaugurated to provide strategic direction, oversight and governance for the Gong Gong Festival of Creativity and Awards.
It seeks to position it as a world-class platform for celebrating excellence in advertising and marketing communications in Ghana.
The Board was inaugurated by the Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) as part of efforts to strengthen transparency, professionalism and sustainability in the organisation of the annual awards scheme, which has been running for more than two decades.
The newly constituted Board members are the Chief Executive Officer of Dentsu Ghana, Andrew Ackah; Lecturer and Coordinator at UPSA, Dr Linda Narh; General Manager of Adesa Productions Limited, Afeafa Nfojoh; Director of Insel Communications Limited, Russel Eni; and Chief Executive Officer of Art Excel, Grace Adzo Andoh.
The others are Senior Vice President of Publicis West Africa, Anand Badami; Managing Director of Pulse Ghana, Nicolette Amaeshi; Chief Operating Officer of Rezultz Advertising, Justin Darkwa; Managing Director of Brandflow, Russell Banful; and Head of Brand, Marketing Communications and Events at Telecel, Lasisi Andre Tayo Jnr.
Speaking at the event, President of the AAG, Andrew Ackah, said the inauguration of a dedicated board for the Gong Gong Awards marked a significant milestone in the history of the association and was intended to strengthen governance, transparency and industry confidence in the awards scheme.
He explained that the decision followed extensive council deliberations and research into global best practices, noting that major international awards such as Cannes and other regional platforms operated with independent governance structures.
Mr Ackah acknowledged that although the Gong Gong Awards had existed for more than two decades, adding the absence of a formal board had affected trust in the system over the years, with perceptions of manipulation and lack of transparency undermining confidence among industry players.
He urged Board members to see their nomination as both a responsibility and an opportunity to shape the future of the industry.
