GTA engages stakeholders ahead of ‘December in GH’ 2025 season

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has held a meeting with key stakeholders in the tourism and creative sectors in Accra ahead of the 2025 edition of “December in GH,” a flagship component of the Black Star Experience. The participants included event organisers, industry partners, security agencies, and other critical players.

Addressing the participants on Wednesday, Maame Efua Houadjeto emphasised the need for stronger coordination and disciplined execution as Ghana prepares for another globally anticipated festive season. She noted that the Black Star Experience, driven significantly by “December in GH,” has grown into a national engine boosting tourism arrivals, stimulating investment, expanding the creative economy, and deepening regional involvement.

“This year’s robust calendar reflects the increasing confidence the international community places in Ghana as a premium destination,” she said, adding that growth must be matched with responsibility to enhance safety, compliance, and operational excellence across all events.

The stakeholder session focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration, identifying operational gaps, anticipating risks, and reinforcing the standards required for smooth implementation. Maame Efua Houadjeto encouraged openness, agility, and a solutions-driven approach across all institutions involved.

Additionally, the GTA CEO outlined three critical operational priorities for the 2025 season:

  1. Strengthen compliance and safety across all event venues.
  2. Ensure timely communication and coordination to eliminate last-minute disruptions.
  3. Enhance data collection and reporting to support evidence-based planning and impact measurement.

Maame Efua Houadjeto reassured partners of the GTA’s continued support through structured facilitation, responsive inter-agency coordination, and swift resolution of bottlenecks, all aimed at ensuring a seamless and impactful festive period.

In a related development, the GTA CEO paid a working visit to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohornu, at the Police Headquarters in Accra to discuss security arrangements ahead of this year’s celebrations. Attended by the police hierarchy, the meeting focused on strategies to bolster safety across event zones, hospitality centres, entertainment corridors, and high-traffic areas expected to host thousands of local and international visitors.

Maame Efua Houadjeto commended the IGP for consistent professionalism and commitment to national safety, reinforced by findings from the 2024 Tourism Report, which indicated that 65% of international visitors consider Ghana one of the safest destinations in Africa. She emphasised that the reputation for safety remains a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism appeal and a critical asset for the “December in GH” brand.

The IGP expressed appreciation for the proactive engagement by the GTA and assured her of the police’s preparedness to provide robust security before, during, and after the festivities, highlighting that collaboration between both institutions is essential for delivering a seamless and incident-free December experience for all.
