GWCL procures pumping equipment for Kpeve Water Supply Station – MD

THE Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has procured two new pumping equipment to replace the old ones at the Kpeve Water Supply Station in the Volta Region, to boost water supply and distribution to residents of Ho metropolis and its environs.

The Managing Director (MD) of the GWCL, Adam Mutawakilu, who disclosed this on Monday said the two pieces of equipment were expected to arrive in the country in March this year to fix the problem.

In the meantime, he said water tanker services were being provided to the people as a short-term solution as technical personnel addressed the problem to ensure regular supply of water to the people before the new pumps arrive.

The MD gave the assurance when he led a team of technical personnel of the GWCL from Accra and Ho to the Kpeve water supply system in the South Dayi District as his first day in office was spent on the field instead of the office.

He explained that it was technically discovered that the tower of the pump being used currently was lower and efforts were being made to boost it to provide water to the affected areas, and would be replaced when the new pumps were secured.

Mr Mutawakilu said when the two new pumps arrived and were fixed, the third pump would also be ordered which would serve as a reserve to ensure a long lasting solution to the challenges in water provision to Ho and its vicinities.

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr Gunu, announced that starting today, water tanker services would be provided for institutions including schools and hospitals in Ho and surrounding communities, stressing the need to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal six (SDG6), which stressed the need for all persons to have access to clean water.

Mr Gunu said conscious efforts would be made to complete the Adidome water supply system to provide for the people in the Adaklu and the Agortime-Ziope districts as well as part of Ho, to protect the people from health challenges that normally emanated from lack of potable water.

The Regional Minister said the Kpando, Kpeve and Adidome water systems would be expanded to 50 and 100 cubic litres a day to address the increasing population, which would prevent future occurrences of water shortage as being experienced.

Mr Gunu said President John Dramani Mahama was much concerned about the water shortage that affected Ho and its environs, and said the government would put in place the necessary measures to address the problem, since water was a vital product in human existence.

The entourage of the Volta Regional Minister included the Volta Regional Director of the GWCL, Mr Francis Lamptey, chiefs of Asogli Traditional Area and the Regional Coordinating Director, Mr Augustus Awity.
