Major -General Kamal Ishola Yusuf, Chief of Defence Accounts and Budget of the Nigerian Armed Forces, was on Monday given the honour to deliver the first lecture of the Alumni Lecture Series of his alma mater, Ho Technical University (HTU) as the guest speaker.
Speaking on the theme; ‘HTU, a Springboard to Global Leadership,’ Major-General Yusuf shared his inspiring journey from his student’s days through his career progression in the Army.
He credited the HTU for instilling “valuable skills and values” that propelled his career and growth.
The Major-General emphasised the need to develop and nurture key skills such as cultural intelligence, communication, collaboration, situational awareness, accountability, discipline, decision-making, global mindset, integrity, and vision which are crucial for success in the 21st century and beyond.
The guest speaker urged fellow alumni to leverage their collective strengths to promote themselves and HTU as a springboard to leadership.
He called on the alumni to support their alma mater, mentor students, and contribute to the institution’s growth.
Vice-Chancellor of the HTU, Prof. Ben Q. Honyenuga, who chaired the event, highlighted the HTU’s evolution since its establishment into a fully-fledged university.
He also extolled the achievements, and recent developments in the university including centres of excellence, innovation projects, and international collaborations.
He stressed the importance of alumni engagement and collaboration for the betterment of the school and their personal selves.
The event, which brought together alumni, faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders, also featured the commissioning of a new Surgical Theatre at the HTU Clinic which was facilitated by the HTU Alumni Association.
The Theatre was named after Major-General Yusuf, who has attained a global leadership status in the Nigerian Army.
