National Communications Director of the Convention People’s Party CPP Osei Kofi Acquah has described the New Patriotic Party NPP flagbearer contest as full of unexpected outcomes.
He noted that the race produced surprises that challenged public expectations about the strength and performance of some leading contenders.
Mr Acquah speaking at Joyprime explained that he initially thought Dr Brian Acheampong as a first time contender would struggle to gain momentum within the party.
However he observed that Dr ACheampong performed strongly and rose quickly during the contest.
He expressed surprise over the performance of Kennedy Agyapong who is often referred to by supporters as the showdown man.
According to him Mr Agyapong failed to live up to expectations and could not deliver the political showdown many anticipated.
Mr Acquah also pointed to the performance of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the race.
He indicated that Dr Bawumia’s popularity within the NPP dropped from about 60 to 70 percent to around 56 percent.
He described the drop as marginal but stressed that it should be a matter of concern for members of the NPP.
Mr Acquah maintained that even small shifts in internal party support can have serious implications for unity and future electoral performance.
