ICGC Gateway Sanctuary Offers Free Health Screening to Pokuase Community
Members of the Gateway Sanctuary of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), along with residents of the Pokuase community in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, benefited from a free health screening organized by the church on Saturday.
Participants were screened for Body Mass Index (BMI), malaria, eye conditions, and blood pressure, among other health indicators.
The initiative was carried out in collaboration with Total Eye Care and the Ga West Municipal Hospital as part of the church’s ongoing efforts to give back to the community.
The Resident Pastor, Reverend Andrew Darko-Ameyaw, told The Ghanaian Times that the annual event aims to enhance residents’ well-being while strengthening the church’s relationship with the community.
“We are not only reaching out with the word of God, but also with initiatives that add value to their lives,” he said. He highlighted the connection between spiritual and physical well-being, emphasizing that a healthy body is essential for serving God effectively.
Dr Benedicta Doh, a Medical Officer at the Ga West Municipal Hospital, underscored the importance of regular health screenings, noting that such outreach programs help detect non-communicable diseases, often described as the silent killers.
She added that arrangements had been made for referrals to the Amasaman Health Facility for cases requiring further attention and encouraged residents to take advantage of medical outreach programs, especially given the long queues at hospitals.
“Checking your blood pressure, sugar, or hepatitis status, especially when it’s free, can save your life or the life of someone you love,” Dr Doh stressed.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative. Abraham Amoako-Agyei described the process as smooth and fast, praising the patience and professionalism of the medical team.
