
Inspector-general of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno on Wednesday held a meeting with former IGPs, in Accra, aimed to provide guidance and share experiences that could enhance the administration and operations of the Ghana Police Service.
The gathering brought together experienced former IGPs, who had served in various capacities, to offer valuable insights to support the new IGP in his leadership role, focusing on improving security, combating crime and modernising the law enforcement agency.
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Department of the GPS, said during the meeting, Mr Yohuno expressed his gratitude to his predecessors for their dedication and contributions to the service over the years.
He emphasised the importance of teamwork and continuous improvement in policing strategies, to ensure the safety of all Ghanaians.
Mr Yohuno also highlighted the government’s commitment to equipping the police with modern tools and resources.
This meeting, he said was part of his broader agenda to reform and transform the police service under President John Mahama’s administration.
Additionally, Mr Yohuno said the engagement with former IGPs underscored the significance of leveraging past experiences to shape the future of the police service, ensuring a safer and more effective law enforcement system in Ghana.
The former IGPs commended the initiative, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening the Ghana Police Service.
They advised the new IGP to prioritise professionalism, discipline, and accountability within the force.
Additionally, they suggested measures to improve police-public relations, fostering greater trust between officers and citizens.
The former IGPs, who attended the meeting, are: Mr Christopher Komla (C.K.) Dewornu, Nana Stephen Owusu-Nsiah, who was also a former Comptroller General of Immigration, Mr John Kudalor, Mrs Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, Mr Ernest Owusu-Poku, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, Mr James Oppong Boanuh, and Mr P.K. Acheampong.
Since his appointment in March, 2025, Mr Yohuno has implemented various measures, to enhance law enforcement and crime prevention nationwide.
