Impressive attendance at Street Academy Health Walk

Over 400 children took part in Saturday’s Street Academy annual health and fitness walk held in Accra.
The occasion was graced by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Odododiodoo Constituency, Mr Alfred Nii Ashie Kotey, who was the Special Guest of Honour.
Also in attendance were former International Boxing Federation (IBF) world champion, Joseph Agbeko and Abraham Mensah, silver medalist at the last Commonwealth Games hosted in the United Kingdom.
The 2025 edition of the annual Health Walk, organised by the Street Academy, a sports and cultural organisation was under the theme: ‘Empowering street children through health and wellness.’
The nearly-three hour walk started from the Accra Arts Centre and went through areas like the Makola Market, Tudu, UTC, Palladium, Akoto Lante, Bukom Square area, Accra High Street and back to the starting point.
Addressing the children comprising of pupils of the academy, volunteers, past pupils and those from the neigbouring communities, Mr Ashie Kotey commended for turning out in their numbers to support the course of the academy.
“Having been here, some of you appreciates the role the academy is playing in giving children on the streets some life. It is a good course because when these children are offered some skills to be entrepreneurs, we’ll all walk around freely and not thinking about who is coming to attack.”
He urged them to be responsible ambassadors of the academy just as the likes of Joseph Agbeko and others who have become models in society by building on the skills acquired at the academy.
The MP advised parents to invest in their children’s education and not leave them on the streets.
“Parents must be responsible by ensuring their wards are in school. Education makes them powerful. It guarantees their future so let’s ensure that we give the children education,” he underlined.
He pledged to support the Street Academy astro turf project as his way of appreciating the institution where he had his internship as a student.
The Director of the Academy, Ataa Lartey, described the event as a success and thanked the high profile personalities that attended.
