The Indian High Commissioner in Accra, Mr Shri Manish Gupta, has reaffirmed the country’s support for Ghana’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, as part of global efforts to combat climate change.
According to him, renewable energy played a crucial role in a country’s development and Indian energy production companies were ready to partner Ghanaian companies to boost energy production.
He added that efficient and sustainable energy systems was essential for Ghana’s economic growth and prosperity.
Speaking at the opening of the 3rd Power and Energy Ghana Expo and Exhibition in Accra on Wednesday, he expressed the country’s commitment to partnering with Ghana in advancing its energy sector, particularly in the areas of sustainable energy solutions and efficiency.
The three-day event which brought together 100 exhibitors and 4,000 participants from Ghana, India, China, Turkey, Nigeria, France, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates (UAE), aimed at providing avenue for showcasing the newest electrical products, power and energy technology.
Additionally, it offered a chance to tackle the supply and demand issues in the energy industry, emphasising the promotion of efficient and sustainable energy solutions for Ghana’s growth.
It is being organised by the BiG4Sure Events FZCO Company from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ghana, and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Mr Gupta disclosed that Indian businesses were willing and ready to work with Ghanaian entrepreneurs to introduce goods and services that would facilitate the nation’s switch to renewable energy.
“Energy is one sector that is going to play an accelerated and important role in Ghana’s economic growth. So the presence of Indian industry leaders at the event is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange and open doors for investment opportunities within Ghana’s energy sector,” he said.
The Chief Director, Ministry of Energy, Mrs Wilhemina Asamoah, emphasized the importance of the Ghana Power and Energy Expo 2024 in advancing sustainable energy initiatives.
She highlighted the critical role of Ghana’s renewable energy sector in fostering economic growth and driving industrialisation across the country.
Mrs Asamoah noted that about 85 per cent of the citizenry had access to electricity, adding that the Ministry was exploring solar energy solutions to increase electricity access in remote communities.
“Ghana is well-positioned to be a transformative force in West Africa’s economic landscape, using power and energy as pillars for industrial development,” she said.
Also the President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association, Dr Joseph Obeng, urged industry participants to attend the show and advocated for increased public awareness of energy conservation.
