Kasoa Millennium City murder case adjourned to Dec. 18

The Accra High Court has adjourned to December 18, the Kasoa Millennium city murder case, involving Ben Lord Ababio, a self-proclaimed traditional ruler, and Nana Ko Amo Gyekye.

Ben Lord Ababio, aka Nana Barima, and Nana Ko Amo Gyekye aka Nana Fii, are standing trial for their alleged involvement in a land dispute that supposedly led to the death of Lance Corporal Michael Danso of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The court, presided by Mrs Kizita Naa Koowah Quarshie, said the number of jurors to be empaneled to handle the case was not “encouraging.”

The judge, therefore, ordered the Registrar of the court to reassemble the jurors to empanel them for trial to commence.

When the matter was called onTuesday, only nine potential jurors were present.

Accused were to select the jurors of their choice, so that they could be empaneled. The accused have the right to reject some of the jurors.

Accomplices of accused, Oteng and Salisu, are said to be at large.

Ababio and Gyekye have been charged with conspiracy, while Ababio is facing additional charge of murder.

Ababio has been remanded in lawful custody, while Gyekye is on GH¢1million bail with two sureties to be justified, and also asked to deposit his passport at the court’s registry.

On April 30, 2024, at around 4pm, Lance Corporal Michael Danso and two other colleagues, Lance Corporals Abdul Omar Rahman and Ametus Mattew, drove to the Millennium City Police Station at Kasoa, in the Central Region, in a Toyota RAV 4 vehicle to report to a case of trespass.

This was after they were informed that some encroachers were developing land belonging to Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman.

Ababio appeared at the Police station and opened fire on Lance Corporal Danso, who was driving the vehicle, killing him instantly.

Ababio was disarmed by the police and arrested for investigations, leading to the arrest of Gyekye. —GNA
