Kojo Barnni Clinches 2025 Gold Fields Damang Open Golf Championship

Damang, Western Region – Tournament favourite Kojo Barnni produced a masterful performance to win the 2025 Gold Fields Damang Open Golf Championship, which concluded on Friday at Damang.

Barnni scored 71 points over the first two days and followed up with 72 and 70 points in the final two rounds, finishing with a total of 284 points. His performance saw him edge out Francis Torgah and Maxwell Osei Bonsu, claiming both the trophy and a GH¢60,000 cash prize, adding to his three previous tournament victories.
Runner-ups and Other Winners
Achimota golfer Lucky Ayisah, winner of last year’s Genser tournament, placed second with a total score of 290 points, receiving GH¢35,000. Maxwell Owusu Bonsu (Royal Golf Club) and Achimota’s Vincent Cofie tied for third place, sharing GH¢34,000.
In the Seniors category, veteran Emos Koblah emerged victorious after accumulating 219 points over three days, taking home GH¢30,000. He was followed by E.K. Osei (GH¢20,000) and Anthony Gbenyo (third place).
Professional Ladies Event
The maiden Professional Ladies event featured 13 golfers from various countries. Senegalese star Oumy Diaye beat South Africa’s M. Zethu over four days to become the first winner of the category. Vivian Kouame from La Côte d’Ivoire placed third. The top three female golfers earned GH¢25,000, GH¢17,000, and GH¢13,000, respectively.
PGA Officials Praise Tournament
Addressing participants after the championship, Mr. Hans De Beer, President of the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Ghana, commended Gold Fields Ghana and Engineers and Planners for sponsoring the tournament. He praised the high level of competition and expressed optimism that such events could help produce a “Tiger Woods” from Ghana.
Mr. De Beer also announced that the Genser tournament and PGA AGM will take place soon in Kumasi. Vice President Alhaji Ahmed Padori highlighted plans to take golf into schools, aiming to encourage more female participation.
Gold Fields Returns as Sponsor
Mr. Sampson Arthur, Operations Manager at Gold Fields Ghana (Abosso), welcomed the return of the company as sponsors and emphasized hopes for continued collaboration with the PGA. Lady Captain Felicity Gyeabour also called for greater support for female professional golfers.
The championship drew pupils from Abosso Methodist JHS, providing them a unique opportunity to learn more about the sport and gain insights into professional golf.
