Kotoko target Samartex fall
Kumasi Asante Kotoko will be looking to exact revenge on FC Samartex when the two sides clash at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena in Samreboi on Sunday for their Ghana Premier League Matchday 3 fixture.
Asante Kotoko were held to a 2-2 draw by debutants Debibi United in their opening fixture of the season a fortnight ago and only returned to winning ways against a difficult Heart of Lions side, whom they defeated 2-1 at home last week.
They will be on the road this time against the Timber Giants, against whom they have scores to settle after the latter picked up four points from them last season, including an away victory at the Baba Yara Stadium.
In what promises to be a fierce battle for the three points, the Porcupine Warriors will be looking to avenge the 2-1 defeat they suffered at home, which further contributed to their eighth-place finish last season.
One of the key figures who oversaw that Samartex victory was lead striker Emmanuel Mamah, who has crossed over to the Porcupine fold this season and will lead the revenge onslaught against his former club on Sunday.
However, his former teammates, defenders James Sewoenu, Isaac Afful and Joseph Nsenkyire, have allayed the fears of the home fans, noting that they are ready to thwart the threats Mamah will pose.
Further to this, shot-stopper Zakari Musah, who was the hero for the side and claimed the Man of the Match award away in Dormaa last week against Aduana FC, has charged the ever-dedicated and vociferous fan base, proudly known as the Timber Army, to bring their colours and energy and make the stadium roar.
He has also promised to jealously guard their current unbeaten run in the league and keep out any threats from the opposition.
In their last three meetings, FC Samartex have recorded one victory, with the rest ending in draws, and it remains to be seen whether they will extend their winning record against the Porcupine lads or whether the revenge mission will be successful.
High-flying Accra Hearts of Oak will joyfully return to the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday to welcome Bechem United in a game their faithful expect nothing but victory.
The Phobians have enjoyed a stupendous start to the season with two straight wins, a feat they last achieved 10 years ago.
Having played to a goalless draw on their last visit to the University of Ghana Stadium last season, Bechem United, who have one win and one defeat under their belt, will look to either replicate last season’s result or pick up all three points at stake form this game, a feat that would be the talk of the town should it come to pass.
In other games, debutants Port City will welcome Berekum Chelsea to the Nana Boamah Darko II Park in Kukurantumi, while Aduana FC host Karela United at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park in Dormaa.
Dreams FC will face Bibiani Gold Stars at the Tuba Astro Turf, while Basake Holy Stars will stay at the AAK II Arena to face FC AshantiGold with debutants Debibi United FC hosting Young Apostles at the Debibi Presby Park.
Tomorrow, at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema New Town, Vision FC will welcome defending champions Medeama SC, while Heart of Lions slug it out with Swedru All Blacks at the Kpando Stadium.
